Britain is a nation. Not an asset class.

The Georgist Party of Britain exists to liberate productive British people from a rentier class whose business model is to treat our inheritance like an economic zone, who use taxes on the wages and work of the productive to keep their monopoly asset prices at record highs and the wages of Britons low.
The wealth is already here: Britain's land alone is worth some £8.5 trillion, a value measured in our people and institutions, our laws and wages, even our roads and railways and schools. We are not a poor country. We are a rich one paying rent on its own birthright.
With your help, let's shift the paradigm of decay and death to one of revival and growth: social healing; higher wages; lower house prices  and meaningful national growth

The inheritance of one nation

The two pillars

Tax what nobody made. Stop punishing what everybody makes.

Nature's gifts belong to the British nation

Land, minerals, the sea around us and the airwaves were created by no one. Their value grows because a particular people have gathered on a particular island for a thousand years, building the civilization, communities, institutions, companies, streets and railways, schools, ports, even the parliament. That shared value should fund Britain, not a foreign fund, offshore trust, or small rentier elite.

Created wealth belongs to its creator

Wages, savings, businesses and buildings are made by people. Taxing them punishes the very effort Britain needs. So we sweep away every tax on enterprise and consumption and leave one flat 20% rate on income, falling as the land charge grows. Nothing you build should be taxed.

20%

one flat rate on income, no National Insurance, no VAT, no council tax, no stamp duty

Stable

affordable house prices as land speculation ends, homes priced for living in

£360bn

the rent Britain's land yields every year, collected for the nation instead of a rentier class

"The land is the inheritance of the British nation; the wealth of its people's hands is their own. The more a country collects of the first, the less it need take of the second."

Founding principle of the party

A party for the people of this country

For the nation, not the zone

Britain is a nation, not an economic zone. Every policy we espouse is designed to first benefit Britain's citizens, the people whose home this is. Politics does not have to be zero sum. Membership is open to anyone who supports that objective.

Not for the international asset market

More and more of Britain's ground is held by owners answerable to no British voter: overseas companies, tax-haven trusts, foreign state funds, and funds that profit from our housing shortage. A charge on land value puts that land back to work for the country it sits in.

For Britain, not for the world

We are a domestic party with a domestic mandate: homes, wages, infrastructure and the tax system of this country. Britain's inheritance will not be spent on arrangements British households have no vote over.

The platform

Four reforms
01

Land Value Tax

A fair annual charge on the unearned value of land, the one asset nobody made, nobody can hide offshore, and nobody abroad should be free to hoard. It funds the nation.

02

One Flat Tax on Income

A single 20% rate on income and nothing else on your work: no National Insurance, no VAT, no council tax, no stamp duty, no corporation tax. As the land charge rises, the rate on work will fall.

03

Affordable Homes

End the land-hoarding that inflates prices. Tax the site, not the building, and homes return to what they cost to build.

04

National Infrastructure

Rail, energy and broadband funded by the land value that public investment itself creates, no borrowing from the future.

5%

annual charge on the value of the land you hold, never on the buildings on it

The land question is being argued over right now, in committee rooms, in the Chamber and on the money pages. None of these pieces are ours, and all of them are free to read.
